Measuring for plantation shutters involves several key steps to ensure accurate dimensions. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you measure for plantation shutters:
Decide on the Mounting Option:
Tool Checklist:
- Tape measure
- Paper and pen for notetaking
- A sturdy step ladder (if needed)
Recess fit
The shutter is installed inside the window frame. This option provides a clean and streamlined look.
Measuring the width
Measure the inside width of the window frame at the top, middle, and bottom. Take the smallest measurement as your width. Write it down.
Measuring the height
Measure the inside width of the window frame at the top, middle, and bottom. Take the smallest measurement as your width. Write it down.
Face fit
The shutter is installed outside the window frame. This option is suitable when there isn’t enough depth or for decorative purposes.
Measuring the width
Measure the width of the area you want to cover with the shutter. Decide how much overlap you want on each side (usually 50 to 100 mm on each side) and add it to the width measurement.
Measuring the height
Measure the height of the area you want to cover with the shutter. Decide how much overlap you want on the top and bottom (usually 50 to 100 mm) and add it to the height measurement.
Additional things to consider
Obstructions
Take note of any obstructions such as handles, window cranks, or trim that might affect the installation or operation of the shutters.
Divider or Mid-Rails (for height > 1000mm)
If you want a mid-rail in your shutters to be at a specific location, measure the desired height from the top for the placement of the rail. If not identified mid-rail will be half way in the panel.
DOUBLE CHECK YOUR MEASUREMENTS
Review your measurements to ensure accuracy. It’s a good idea to measure twice to avoid any errors.
